Seven Palestinians have been arrested in connection with the rockets fired into Israel from Lebanon some days ago, with the military denying they were ‘a Hamas sleeper cell’. Their actual political affiliation (mujahid? PFLP-GC?) remains undisclosed. UNIFIL has merely reported that the rocket attackers ‘enjoy a high level of professionalism’. Meanwhile, an arms cache has been discovered in the south, and two Lebanese were arrested reportedly trying to smuggle a ‘small quantity of plastic material that could be explosive’ into the Italian UNIFIL compound at Tibnine (although defence minister Murr is now claiming they were not explosives). Al Akhbar meanwhile reports that the Lebanese security forces believe ‘an extremist sunni cell’ is behind the firing of the rockets (links to article in Arabic), adding that they are likely the same group responsible for placing the timed rockets a few days before the Gaza onslaught began (thanks Bech for pointing me to the article).
